Geddy Lee Scholarship 2012
Geddy Lee Winemaker Scholarship Awarded to Julie Debourbon

In recognition for Geddy Lee’s contribution to Grapes For Humanity’s fund-raising efforts, the Board of Directors set up an annual scholarship in his name for a winemaker student at Niagara college. The first recipient of the Geddy Lee Scholarship is Julie deBourbon. Julie is in the second year of the Winery & Viticulture Technician program and received an honours average of 81% after completion of the first year. Julie applied to the program because she has always been interested in wine making, which was introduced to her at home, where her family made wine as a hobby. She has made her own wine and liquors, and learns from successes and failures. She is currently completing her field placement as a lab technician at Jackson-Triggs Winery, where she is learning about wine making on a larger scale, including the fermentation process as well as problem-solving. After graduation, she would like to start a career in Prince Edward County, as many new wineries are opening in that area.

Adrienne Rosen, the head of Access Education Guatemala (and incidentally, the first woman to ride a motorcycle around the world alone), gave a moving address about the need for schools in that country. Proceeds from this dinner will be directed to the building of a secondary school in La Union...
